Dr. Sonia Nzilani, the Executive Committee Member (ECM) for Marketing, Industry, Culture, and Tourism in Makueni County

Dr. Sonia Nzilani, the Executive Committee Member (ECM) for Marketing, Industry, Culture, and Tourism in Makueni County, was found dead at her home on the outskirts of Makindu township on Saturday, November 22, 2025. She was expected to attend a tree-planting event but did not show up, and efforts to reach her by phone failed. 

Her driver went to her home and, after gaining access through a window since her room was locked from inside, found her lifeless. Medics later confirmed her death.Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr announced her passing with deep sorrow, honoring her as a dedicated environmental conservator and a passionate advocate for tree planting and environmental conservation, earning the affectionate nickname "Syomiti." Dr. Nzilani had been active in environmental conservation efforts, including educating students, restoring wetlands, leading clean-up programs, and promoting initiatives to keep girls in school.

Before her death, she had sent a WhatsApp message complaining of ulcers. 

Her body was taken to Montezuma Monalisa Funeral Home in Machakos.
